Rawlins County is a hunter’s paradise. Hunting lodges are available along the beautiful Beaver Creek which provide all levels of service for your hunting vacations. As the sun sets in the West, you will want to experience the brilliant colors of the incredible Kansas sky from the beautifully landscaped park along side the Lake.
Lake Atwood is a beautiful 43 acre Lake at the north end of town. It is encircled by a lighted walking path with a unique covered walking bridge. The Lake is surrounded by magnificent old cottonwood trees, shaded campsites and picnic areas. There are camper hookups and bathroom and shower facilities are available. One can enjoy the many aspects of the Lake, walking, fishing, canoeing, lounging in the shade, even feeding the many species of water fowl that consider Lake Atwood their home.
The Hayden Nature Trail occupies the West Lake area. It is a natural wildlife habitat that is enjoyed by all and used by area schools for studying wildlife.
On the northwest edge of the Lake site The Old Depot, an inviting gift shop that houses crafts and antiques.
The Atwood Country Club and Golf Course is just across the road north edge of Lake Atwood. It is home to a spectacular 9 hole golf course with beautiful grass greens. Fees are posted and the public is invited to play at their leisure.
Summer time offers the excitement of the Lake Atwood 10 Mile Road Race, Lake Atwood Days and other exciting events such as the Early Rod Run, Fishing, the County Fair and more. If you prefer something more low-key, how about a relaxing day at the Atwood Swimming Pool. Perhaps you will catch that legendary Lake Atwood catfish that has been eluding anglers of all ages for years.
